Offered is one of the key cards from one of the truly difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes set that looks like T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. Among an imposing roster of Hall of Famers is this John McGraw Type 2 – Portrait that is found here in an SGC 1 holder. One of two variations in the set, the Hall of Famer manager is one of the keys to this issue and certainly one of the more attractive cards in the set; the offered card is in a difficult condition, with extensive creasing and staining on the front and the Coupon Cigarettes back revealing notable staining and toning, along with some modest paper loss. The “McGraw, New York Nat.” typeface in blue on the card front, one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts, has been jostled by some of the aforementioned staining.
