Offered is one of the key cards from one of the truly difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes set that looks like T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. Among an imposing roster of Hall of Famers is this elegant John McGraw Type 2 – Portrait that is found here in an SGC Authentic (Altered) holder. One of two variations in the set, the Hall of Fame manager is one of the keys to this issue and certainly one of the more imposing cards in the set; the offered card is compelling with vivid blood-red background showcasing the McGraw Portrait, with good centering right to left and a significant bias to the top, along with staining to the front. The “McGraw, New York Nat.” typeface in blue on the card front is one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts, though it is jostled by being cut short at the bottom. The card has been affixed to a piece of cardboard that is very erratically cut on all four sides.
