Offered is one of the key cards from one of the truly difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes set that looks like T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. Among an imposing roster of Hall of Famers is this elegant Sam Crawford Type 2 that is found here in a PSA 2.5 holder. The Hall of Famer played alongside teammate Ty Cobb on a Detroit ball club that was one of the first great dynasties; the offered card is outstanding, with luminous yellow and green pastel colors neatly showcasing the Crawford batting pose, with perhaps 65/35 centering left to right and a bit of bias top to bottom, along with an uncommonly crisp and clean card back, with superlative black printing as clear and concise as you will find in early tobacco issues. The “Crawford, Detroit” typeface in blue on the card front is outstanding and one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts.
