Offered is one of the key cards from one of the truly difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes Type 2 set that looks like T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. Among an imposing roster of Hall of Famers is this elegant Tris Speaker card, one of the keys to the issue and the sole version in the set of this largely underrated superstar, found here in a PSA 1.5 holder. The offered card is very attractive, with the vivid blue background that so effectively showcases the Speaker batting pose and 65/35 centering right to left, along with a decent card back, revealing light staining and toning and crisp black printing. The “Speaker, Boston Amer.” typeface in blue on the card front is outstanding and one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts.
