For one of the most significant moments in baseball history, it’s essential to have artwork worthy of the event, and such is the case here with this absolutely stunning 22-by-28-inch rendition of “Roger Maris’ 61st Home Run done in acrylic by one of the masters of the form, Darryl Vlasak. Few artists are capable of capturing the majesty and mystery of such historic feats as does Vlasak, with the uncanny re-creation of old ballparks done with such a loving flair that the viewer is taken back in time. In the image, Maris has finished his swing and is watching intently as his 61st and final home run of the tumultuous 1961 campaign heads into the history books. It’s difficult to imagine another painter so masterfully capturing the essence of one of the key moments in baseball history as has Vlasak, who signed his masterpiece in his elegant fashion on the lower-right corner of the painting. The lot represents a unique opportunity to own original artwork that so eloquently speaks to baseball fans of any age or era.
