Presented is a remarkable 114-year-old Banquet Menu commemorating the Detroit Tigers’ pennant-winning campaign in 1907, the year that marked the beginning of the club’s greatest dynasty of three consecutive American League pennants. The elegant 6 ½-by-10 ½-inch program features a distinctive cover piece in Tiger Green with gold printing, with six similarly imposing pages inside on grey parchment paper, highlighted by a “tipped in” 4-by-3-inch, black-and-white team photograph of the famed ballclub, with a young Tyrus Raymond Cobb at the center that is opposite a racy graphic image accompanying the evening’s musical selections. Held at the ritzy Hotel Cadillac in Detroit on October 16th that fall, the handsome menu featured pages that include a musical parody of “Michigan, My Michigan,” the evening’s first-class menu that started with Canape D’Anchovies and ended with Fromage De Brie several courses later (all in French – the rest of the program is, thankfully, in English), a full page of Toasts and two more pages of the banquet and executive committees. The program is in superlative condition, with attractive grey braiding for binding; there is some back damage, including light paper loss, that hardly detracts from the presentation.
