Here’s one for the ages: a complete set of the fabled 1971 Bazooka Baseball unnumbered issue, offered here in essentially as-issued Near-Mint to Mint or better unassembled boxes. This is a treasure that is occasionally found with a few unassembled boxes, but rarely with a complete set picturing all 36 players in 12 three-card panels, with each and every one in full unassembled boxes looking just as they must have when they rolled off the printing press. This was the final year of Bazooka’s string of vintage issues from 1959-71; the brand would be resurrected in the modern era with more conventional issues under the Topps auspices. In 1971, that meant a lineup studded with some of the legendary Hall of Famers of the postwar era, including Henry Aaron, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Carl Yastrzemski, Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson, Bob Gibson, Harmon Killebrew, Johnny Bench and more, a total of 16 Cooperstown-worthy folks in all, constituting almost ½ of the complete set. The breakdown of the 10 ¼-by-4 ½-inch unassembled boxes: Panel 1 – Agee, Killebrew and Jackson; Panel 2 – Campaneris, Rose and Cepeda; Panel 3 – Carty, Bench and Harper; Panel 4 – Freehan, Clemente and Osteen; Panel 5 – Fregosi, Williams and McNally; Panel 6 – Hundley, Mays and Hunter; Panel 7 – Marichal, Howard and Melton; Panel 8 – McCovey, Yastrzemski and Wright; Panel 9 – Merritt, Aparicio and Murcer; Panel 10 – Petrocelli, McDowell and Gaston; Panel 11 – Brooks Robinson, Aaron and Dierker; and Panel 12 – Staub, Gibson and Otis.
