This lot offers two newspapers from when Hank Aaron tied and broke Babe Ruth’s home run record. First, an original Atlanta Journal Constitution newspaper dated 4/5/1974 with a large bold headline reading “Aaron Hits 714” with some images of Aaron and one of the Babe. There are a couple of articles about the homerun chase and another headline that states “Ruth’s Widow ‘Not Excited’.” Awesome piece of baseball history! The paper is a bit fragile with some flaking around the edges, a tear in the lower middle section of the front page and bottom left corner, but overall good condition. Next, an original New York Times dated 4/9/1974 with the headline reading “Aaron Hits 715, Passes Babe Ruth” with a photo of a smiling Aaron being mobbed by fans as he rounds the bases. Awesome piece of baseball history! Paper is in excellent condition.
