This is a wonderful example of a spectacular vintage Topps baseball issue from the Golden Decade of the 1950’s, a 1958 complete set in an overall condition markedly better than this set is found in many older collections. Basically Excellent to Near-Mint, this particular offering is even better than its technical grades because of particularly pronounced and bold colors that make up the backgrounds, vivid specimens of the eclectic range of blazing reds, greens, orange and yellows that have made this issue so quirky and collectible. Seemingly printed on a card stock that appeared softer than some of the other Topps mainstream issues of the period, this complete set lays claim to a crispness and gloss that is not often found in 1958. Overall, the set is 10 percent Near-Mint, 54 percent Ex-Mt and 29 percent Excellent or Very Good to Excellent, with only 7 percent Very Good or below. Also included are the additional contest cards, the Felt MLB Emblems and the All-Star Contest Cards. The set is such that it would be a great addition as is to any collection or its various components could be used to upgrade any number of existing sets with so many cards reaching Ex-Mt or even Near-Mint status. It would be rare indeed to find a 1958 Topps Baseball set that had somehow managed to avoid wholesale entombment by one of the grading companies and yet presented in such an impressive fashion.
