This was the final year of Topps issuing its baseball cards by series through the course of the spring and summer, and the presented lot is an uncommonly spectacular example of this important issue, found here in blazing mostly Near-Mint to Mint condition. These cards have the look of having been assembled from vending boxes, with vivid colors and good gloss, ultra clean card backs and a remarkably pristine presentation that is jostled only by the kind of centering concerns you might have typically found in vending during the period. Perhaps 40 percent of the series has the kind of centering that might prompt an upgrade, though certainly not all would be pronounced enough to demand the official off-center designation. The eight (8) League Leaders Nos. 61-68 are off-center, along with keys No. 1 Aaron/Mays/Ruth, No. 54 Checklist, No. 90 Brooks Robinson, No. 100 Aaron, No. 115 Santo and No. 130 Rose. Simply put, it’s an extraordinary opportunity to pick up 20 percent of the complete set in a condition that largely mimics what they must have looked like coming off the presses more than 40 year ago.
