Like an adjacent lot that runs from 1977-80, this amazing grouping consists of six complete Topps sets that close out the decade of the 1970’s of Topps baseball sets, and close out the final years of Topps’ 25-year monopoly in the baseball card manufacturing business that ran from 1956 to the arrival of Fleer and Donruss in 1981 and the explosive expansion of the hobby. The run from 1975-80 is remarkably consistent, with each year boasting vivid colors and great gloss, basically Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint beauties, with arguably no difference between the Hall of Famers and stars and the rest in the broader condition range, with seemingly uncirculated and largely unimprovable cards. Offering an unmistakable glimpse into the wider condition range, nine of the key cards from the grouping have been slabbed and graded by PSA: 1976 (4) – No. 300 Bench and No. 330 Ryan – PSA 7 and No. 599 Guidry and No. 650 Munson – PSA 9; 1978 (2) – No. 36 Murray and No. 707 Molitor – PSA 8; 1979 (2) – No. 115 Ryan – PSA 7.5 and No. 116 Smith – PSA 8; and 1980 – No. 482 Henderson – PSA 8.
