This one-page, front and back handwritten letter from James "Cool Papa" Bell is written Negro League historian, John Holway. Much of the letter disputes Bell's batting averages, speciafically in the 1944 and 1946 seasons. Bell writes in part, "1944 they took 34 points from me, 1946 they took 9 points from me, that 43 points" and argues that "For 20 years hitting Major League pitching is 374." He points out "Mr. Holway you have been so good." He wrote the entire letter in blue ink and signed his full name, which is authenticated by PSA/DNA with a basic COA.
