This is a wonderful presentation of an historic vintage football issue, the 1960 Fleer set that was the company first football effort as they tried to muscle their way into the sports card arena then dominated by archrival Topps. The 1960 Fleer set featured cards of the fledgling American Football League, the brash newcomers attempting a bit of their own muscling into the rough-and-tumble world of the National Football League. Fleer’s AFL entry boasts blazing bright background colors, and this particular specimen has particularly vivid colors and gloss to nicely complement sharp corners that insist this is a Near-Mint or even better offering, with perhaps a couple of cards Ex-Mt but with the emphasis probably to Near-Mint to Mint. No better testimony to that assessment exists than the third-party blessing of the key No. 60 Jack Kemp card, found in a PSA 9 (Mint) o/c holder. Difficult to imagine finding a better example of this key issue, with the stars and Hall of Famers in basically the same condition range as the overall group. Perhaps three or four dozen cards have the kind of centering that might prompt an upgrade, though not all of those would necessarily be affixed with an off-center designation. Some of the keys: No. 58 Blanda – Nr-Mt to Mt, 66 Cannon – Nr-Mt to Mt, 118 Mix – Ex-Mt (has rough cut), 121 – Ex-Mt, 128 – Ex-Mt, and 132 – Nr-Mt.
