This is an interesting lot of four partial strips from the quirky 1950 R423 Baseball issue of 5/8-by-7/8-inch “cards” that were issued in perforated strips of 13, plus a large grouping of bottle caps from Coca-Cola and the company’s related products in 1967-68 that featured major league players pictured on the inside of the caps. The R423 array includes four strips of the unique cards that were designed to be issued from vending machines in 13-card strips. The four partial strips: 1) Seven cards with Zoldak, Newcombe, Zernial, Stephens, Coleman, Slaughter and Woodling – Ex-Mt; 2) Six cards with Walter Johnson, Henrich, Gehrig, Shoun, Baumholtz and Dropo – Very Good; 3) Five cards with Konstanty, Rosen, Zarilla, Thompson and Elliott – Excellent; and 4) Three cards with Kiner, Newhouser and Hearn – Ex. The bottle caps grouping is in fairly typical condition, with expected wrinkles from opening and some visible nicks and rusting. There are three groupings for the 75 caps as follows: NFL, (19 in all) with four Lift-Off caps and including Retzlaff (2), Parker (2) and Brown; A group of Yankees/Mets (25), with some duplication, including Morgan and Banks; and a final group of Mets (31).
