This is an impressive grouping of one of the great premiums from the Depression era, the 7 ¾-by-9 ½-inch Butterfinger Premiums that represent a wonderful, oversized presentation of many of the great stars of the period. The black-and-white unnumbered images are printed on a delicate paper stock that was prone to tiny tears, and some of the “cards” in this array of three dozen wind up with a lower formal condition designation while presenting in a much nicer fashion. There are 10 Hall of Famers included in this array, which is offered here in a slightly better overall grade than these coveted premiums are typically found in mature collections. The breakdown is below: Averill – Poor; Bartell – Fair; Berger (2, Poor and Fair); Bottomley – Fair due to paper loss on one edge, but presents much nicer; Boyle – Fair; Carroll – Fair due to small paper loss, but presents Ex; Chapman – Fair; Cochrane – Fair; Collins – Fair; Cronin – Good; Derringer – Good; Dickey – Fair; Frey – Fair; Frisch – Fair, but presents Ex; Gomez – Fair; Haas – Fair; Harris – Poor; Johnson – Poor; Jordan – Poor; Kuhel – Poor; Marberry – Very Good; Martin – Good; Melillo (2, Very Good and Fair); Moore – (2, both Fair); Morrissey – Fair; Pearson – Poor; Simmons – Fair, but presents Ex; Spohrer – Very Good; Vance – Poor; Vosmik – Fair; West – Fair; Whitehill – Poor; and Wilson – Fair, but presents VG-Ex.
