Along with shining the spotlight on pop culture genres of every description, Topps and the handful of erstwhile competitors ventured into the nonsport arena with gusto, and the nation’s time-honored regard for all things military proved to be fertile ground. One of Topps’ earlier efforts in the smaller 2 1/16-by-2 15/16-inch size portrayed the U.S. Marines in color photos offset again patriotic red, white and blue borders. This is a nice representation of this important non-sport issue, found here in a solid Very Good to Excellent condition, with some below and a couple above the range, all housed in nine-pocket sheets in a binder and boasting a very nice consistent look, with vivid colors and good gloss. Card nos. 1 and 62 fall outside the broader range at, respectively, Fair and Poor; the missing numbers are 57, 63, 64, 66, 67, 68, 73, 74, 76, 78, 81, 82, 85, 90, 93 and 95.
