From the famous anniversary celebration from nearly 50 years ago when Major League Baseball celebrated its centennial comes this spectacular grouping of Near-Mint or better First Day Covers featuring black-and-white artistic renderings of many of the game’s greatest stars from the turn of the century on. The FDC’s are 3 ½-by-6 ½-inch envelopes, each in an elegant cream color and canceled with “First Day of Issue” atop a 6-Cent U.S. stamp honoring professional baseball. The FDC’s bear printing noting “100th Anniversary of Professional Baseball,” and the Sept. 24, 1959, Cincinnati, Ohio postmark. The imposing lineup: Cobb, DiMaggio, Gehrig, Koufax, Mantle, Mays, Musial, Paige, Jackie Robinson, Ruth, Williams and Young.
