The colorful and important Star Co. issues from 1983-85 sustained the basketball collecting arena for the interval of 1983-85 after the withdrawal of Topps and the arrival of Fleer three years later. While most of their production focused on conventional-sized 2 ½-by-3 ½-inch cards, the company also produced a number of truly spectacular oversized cards like these 5-by-7-inch 1985 Court Kings Supers, complete at 50 cards and headlined by the likes of Jordan (BGS 8), Wilkins (BGS 8.5), Abdul-Jabbar (BGS 9), Erving (BGS 8.5), Wilkins (BGS 8.5), Magic Johnson (BGS 8), Bird (BGS 9), Thomas (BGS 8), Barkley (BGS 8.5), Olajuwon (BGS 9) and Worthy (BGS 8.5). These oversized Star Co. cards are stunning in their presentation, easily Near-Mint to Mint or better condition, in arguably one of the more successful efforts by a mainstream card manufacturer to produce issues significantly larger than the regular-issue versions. The Star Co. issues were never issued in the conventional fashion in packs with gum but rather were sold in individual team or subset sealed bags through card dealers across the country.
