Presented is a standout example of the important Star Co. basketball issues that sustained the basketball collecting arena for the interregnum of 1983-85 after the withdrawal of Topps and the propitious arrival of Fleer three years later. This 1985 All Rookie set of 11, showcasing many of the top young players – Olajuwon, Barkley, Perkins, Stockton - in glistening cards that are easily Near-Mint or Near-Mint to Mint or better, is appropriately enough headlined by a Michael Jordan No. 2 in a BGS 8.5 holder. The Star Co. issues bridged that gap with products of singular quality, cards that were never issued in the conventional fashion in packs with gum but rather were sold in individual team or subset sealed bags through card dealers across the country. It didn't hurt that the company’s tenure coincided with the exploding popularity of Michael Jordan, quickly becoming the biggest star in the history of the NBA and beyond.
