This unique lot is a phenomenal tribute to one of the most beloved teams in Major League Baseball history, the expansion 1962 New York Mets, the Casey Stengel-led aggregation of old Dodgers and Giants, various castoffs from other National League clubs and a handful of youngsters thought to have great promise, including a Yale graduate from Canada. It all added up to 120 loses that giddy first season and yet the seeds were sown for better things to come … eventually. This amazing array of mostly Near-Mint 8-by-10-inch black and white photos boasts the very same images used in the club’s first-ever yearbook, and includes seven photos that have the official stamping on the back of famed photographer J.D. McCarthy of Oak Park, Mich., well known within the hobby for his epic series of MLB postcards. Naturally enough, Casey headlines with five photographs, including one classic with a half dozen of those aforementioned former Dodgers.
