Here is a spectacular set of hockey cards commemorating the long-defunct World Hockey Association, the upstart operation that challenged the NHL in the 1970s and ultimately disbanded in 1979. The set offers a splendid snapshot of the fabled league which lured away several of the NHL’s premier stars and dramatically altered the landscape of player salaries before folding, with four franchises winding up being added to the NHL’s fiefdom. The set is in basically Near-Mint or better condition, with super clean cards boasting both vivid colors and a remarkably uniform, consistent presentation, nudged only by the occasional centering concerns and the legendary O-Pee-Chee rough cut that are typically found in the North-of-the-Border issues. Breakdown of keys and condition anomalies for 1975 O-Pee-Chee (132): No. 1 Hull – Near-Mint to Mint, 7 Mark Howe – Nr-Mt-Plus, 19 Ftorek Rookie – Nr-Mt, 20 Cheevers – Nr-Mt to Mt, 34 Plante – Nr-Mt to Mt, 40 Hedberg – Nr-Mt-Plus, 62 Tremblay All-Star – Nr-Mt-Plus, 65 Hull All-Star – Nr-Mt to Mt, 66 Howe All-Star – Nr-Mt-Plus, 67 Cheevers All-Star – Nr-Mt-Plus, 72 Hedberg All-Star – Excellent, 100 Howe – Nr-Mt to Mt, 130 Tremblay – Nr-Mt-Plus and 131 Checklist – VG-Ex.
