This is a truly startling array of cards from 1972-75 that seemingly just jumped out of packs, Near-Mint to Mint or better blazers, with loads of Hall of Famers and Specials and a cadre of PSA 9 Mint slabbed examples that nicely mirror the wider condition range. A PSA 7 Roberto Clemente from 1973 grabs the spotlight, but it’s 18 PSA 9 Mint slabs from 1972 that truly set the tone, paving the way for three amazing groups of raw cards that appear just as worthy of that designation. There’s little wiggle room in the broad description between the three groups, though the large 1973 array may be just a whisper lower, but still basically Near-Mint or better, and with little or no duplication in any of the years. Cards from any of the three years would serve perfectly to upgrade almost any set, or certainly to launch on a new set in the most impeccable condition. Here’s the breakdown of slabbed cards: PSA 9 (18) – No. 23, 53, 59, 66 (2), 290, 317, 335, 337, 360, 363, 365, 371, 399, 499, 587, 607 and 610; and PSA 7 Roberto Clemente 1973 No. 50. Breakdown of raw cards: 1972 (64) – including Clemente and Clemente In Action (Very Good), Seaver In Action, a Team card and a World Series subset card; 1973 (175) – including No. 1 Home Run Leaders, Aaron, Jackson, Yastrzemski, Berra, Seaver, Carlton, Jenkins, Aparicio, Santo, Brock, Sutton, Niekro, Blyleven, All-Time Leaders Cobb and Johnson, plus 11 Teams (including the Mets), seven League Leaders and four World Series Subset cards; 1975 Topps (260) – including Rose, Carew, Frank Robinson, Hunter, five MVP Subset cards (1957 Mantle/Aaron), three World Series, seven Teams, Hernandez Rookie and League Leader (Ryan); and 1975 Topps Minis (11) – generally same grades, a couple lower – with No. 1 Aaron, Carew, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Brock, Carew, Gibson, McCovey, Allen, No. 2 Brock Highlight (VG-Ex) and No. 3 Gibson Highlight.
