Presented is a fascinating lot of laser images of Wire Photos from 1951 to the early 1970s, spectacular – and often well known – photography that graced the sports pages of the nation’s newspapers and magazines and celebrated the epic moments in baseball at a time when New York City was the center of the MLB universe. Included with some of the photos – generally 8-by-10 inches or slightly smaller – are often stamping from United Press International or the Associated Press, plus some notations from newspaper or magazine editorial staffers. Most include detailed cutline information from staffers with information about dates, game information and players. Here’s the breakdown (19): 1) Mickey Mantle legs out a single in the 1957 All-Star Game; 2) Jackie Robinson slides into third in Game Five of the 1951 World Series; 3) Duke Snider robs Joe DiMaggio in center field in Game Five of the 1951 World Series; 4) Mantle chats with Harvey Kuenn and Kuenn’s two-year-old daughter at the 1958 World Series; 5) Willie Mays steals second – 1951; 6) Ralph Terry and Tom Tresh celebrate at the 1962 World Series; 7) Sal Maglie congratulates Don Larsen after perfect 1956 World Series effort; 8) Yogi Berra congratulates Jim Bunning on 1957 All-Star Game win; 9) Ted Williams at 1957 All-Star Game locker room; 10) Don Drysdale, Bill Martin and Sam Mele at 1965 World Series; 11) Tony Kubek bunt attempt in 1962 World Series Game Seven; 12) Mantle retirement day in 1969 and retro photo with Mantle and Frank Crosetti from 1951; 13) 1976 Old-Timer’s Day national anthem with DiMaggio, Mantle, Martin, Berra and Whitey Ford; 14) 1962 Maryland Baseball Shrine of the Immortals Induction with Ed Rommel, Charlie Keller and Jimmie Foxx; 15) 1971 Hall of Fame Induction with Satchel Paige, Chick Hafey, Harry Hooper and Rube Marquard; 16) Willie Mays greets Joe DiMaggio at 1970 reception honoring Mays’ 600th home run; 17) undated photo with Paige and Ford; 18) 1971 Hall of Fame Induction Plaques of Hafey, Beckley, Hooper and Kelley; and 19) undated and uncaptioned action image of Roger Maris as fly ball drops.
