It’s rare when you can be so unequivocal in describing a set of baseball cards. This is hands-down the nicest 1954 Bowman Baseball near set that we’ve ever handled. Period. At Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint, it’s difficult to imagine finding a better array that isn't entirely entombed in plastic, and in this instance a dozen monsters are duly encased, providing a nice glimpse into the wider condition range. From a PSA 7 Mickey Mantle to glistening PSA 8 blazers of Mays, Snider, Campanella, Berra and Ford, plus a superb SGC 86 Ted Williams, it’s not hard to see how the entire array would garner such accolades. Breakdown of slabbed cards (12): No. 1 Rizzuto – PSA 7, No. 6 Fox – PSA 8, No. 15 Ashburn – PSA 8, No. 65 Mantle – PSA 7, No. 66 Williams – SGC 86, No. 84 Doby – PSA 8, No. 89 Mays – PSA 8, No. 90 Campanella – PSA 8, No. 161 Berra – PSA 8, No. 170 Snider – PSA 8, No. 177 Ford – PSA 8 and No. 196 Lemon – PSA 8. Breakdown of unslabbed keys: No. 45 Kiner – Near-Mint-Plus, No. 58 Reese – Near-Mint, No. 64 Mathews – Nr-Mt-Plus, No. 95 Roberts – Nr-Mt to Mt, No. 101 Larsen Rookie – Ex-Mt-Plus, No. 132 Feller – Nr-Mt to Mt o/c, 154 Newcombe – Nr-Mt-Plus and 224 Bruton – Nr-Mt-Plus. In an array so close to perfection, it’s almost a distraction to mention four missing soldiers: No. 79 Simmons, No. 138 Hodges, No. 198 Trucks and No. 208 Antonelli.
