It’s pretty clearly the most unusual baseball card set that Topps ever produced, the unique two-player fold-over Doubleheader issue that features two players sheepishly sharing a pair of legs. The 2 1/16-by-4 7/8-inch cards are among the true condition-sensitive paragons of the collecting world and an egalitarian example to boot, with Tier One Hall of Famer giddily sharing appendages with their lessers to, uh, notable effect. The offered group is in a bit better condition than this difficult issue is typically encountered in mature collections, essentially Very Good to Ex-Mt. Overall, it comes out to 23 percent Ex-Mt, 30 percent Excellent and 40 percent Very Good, with just a couple of cards below. The two missing cards are No. 45-46 Kaline/Valentine and No. 69-70 Ted Williams/Smith. Breakdown of keys: No. 3 Irvin – Ex-Mt-Plus, 25 Robinson – Excellent, 32 Banks – Fair, 105 Aaron – Fair, 109 Newhouser – Very Good m/c, 111 Killebrew – Ex and 127 Spahn – Ex.
