Presented is a nice example of an important non-sport set, the Gum Inc. War Gum issue that helped prepare a reluctant nation for an approaching world war. The 2 ½-by-3 1/8-inch cards utilize striking color artwork reminiscent of the Horrors of War classic, but without the emphasis on gore, mayhem and carnage. The War Gum issue focuses on important war events and battles, along with producing important cards of world leaders, generals, royalty and military and civilian heroes. The offered set is broadly Good to Ex-Mt, coming in at 6 percent Ex-Mt, 19 percent Excellent, 56 percent Very Good and 19 percent Good. The breakdown of keys: No. 1 Franklin Roosevelt – Excellent, 5 Admiral King – Good, 11 Mac Arthur – VG-Ex, 15 Churchill – Good, 19 Marshall – Very Good, 46 Admiral Nimitz – Ex-Plus o/c, 55 O’Hare – VG-Ex, 76 Chenault – Ex-Plus, 97 de Gaulle – VG, 99 Selassie – VG, 100 Queen Elizabeth – VG-Ex and 132 Home Defense – Good.
