The giddy enthusiasm for the Phillies Whiz Kids in 1950 found an outlet in a striking set of blank-backed 8-by-10-inch premiums offered by the Philadelphia Bulletin, found here in a near set missing only the Robin Roberts. The original printing with the newspaper and later the premiums were produced in late September as the club rallied to the National League pennant and an eventually World Series tangle with the Yankees. The breakdown: Ashburn – Poor (autographed), Bloodworth – Excellent, Caballero – Very Good, Candini – Ex, Church – VG, Donnelly – Ex, Ennis – Good, Goliat – Fair, Hamner – Fair, Heintzelman – Ex, Hollmig – Ex. Jones – VG, Johnson – Ex, Konstanty – Fair, Lopata – Ex, Meyer – VG, Miller – Ex, Nicholson – VG, Sawyer – VG, Seminick – Good, Silvestri – VG, Simmons – Good, Sisler – Poor, Waitkus – VG and Whitman – Ex.
