Presented is a really cool lot showcasing many of the most coveted premium issues of the Depression Era, a lineup that includes the likes of the colorful and elegant 1937 Dixie Lids (complete set), the famed R312 “Pastels” and the 1936 Goudey Wide Pens and National Chicle Fine Pens. It’s an array that includes 28 Hall of Famers along with dozens of the great stars of the period. A 1936 Dixie Lids Charlie Gehringer in sparkling Near-Mint condition headlines, leading an array from several different issues that includes Carl Hubbell, Mickey Cochrane, Rogers Hornsby, Lefty Gomez, Joe Medwick, Connie Mack and John McGraw, to name a few. We’ll lead off with an imposing group of one of the coveted Depression Era premium issues, the 3 ¼-by-5 ½-inch Goudey “Wide Pens” Type I, the largest component of the lot with 53 examples and just a wee bit of duplication. The array is broadly Fair to Good, with a couple below and a couple of an (mk) qualifier. The lineup includes Averill, Cochrane, Frisch, Gomez, Harris, Klein (2), Lombardi and Medwick; 1936 R312 Pastels (12) – 4-by-5 3/8 inches, mostly Fair to Good, with a couple below, including Cochrane, Cuyler, Dickey, Hornsby, Hornsby/Sothoren (Poor), Martin (2, Fair and Poor), and Ruffing; 1936 National Chicle Fine Pen Premiums R313 (17), the 3 ¼-by-5 3/8-inch cards that remain one of the most coveted and comprehensive issues of the period. The array is mostly Fair to Good with a couple below, including Frisch, Gomez (Very Good), Medwick (Poor), Mack/McGraw, Gomez/Ruffing (Poor) and Dykes Safe; 1936 National Chicle R311 Leathers (1) - 6-by-8-inch Premium that boasts an unusual, leather-like finish – 1935 NL Pennant Winner Chicago Cubs – Fair; 1937 Dixie Lids Premiums Complete Set (4) – 8-by-10-inches, with Gehringer – Near-Mint, Hartnett (Ex-Mt-Plus), Hubbell (Excellent) and Medwick (VG-Ex); and a miscellaneous group (7) of 1930s premiums that includes examples of 1939 Goudey Premiums R303B of Feller (Fair) and Lombardi (Good), plus five assorted others including Frisch, Martin, Paul Dean and Medwick.
