Offered is an intriguing array of important early postwar baseball plus almost two dozen cards from 1939 Play Ball, with a lineup that includes several important Rookies and a large group of Hall of Famers, often touching on some of the biggest names of the period. From 1948 Bowmans of Bob Feller and Enos Slaughter, 1949 Bowmans from Kiner, Spahn, Reese and Mize, among others, to a striking near set of the campy 1951 Topps Red Backs issue, missing just three cards, the array offers a real opportunity for advanced collectors to pick up dozens of key cards from the earliest years of the postwar collecting era. Here’s the breakdown: 1939 Play Balls (19) – cards ostensibly present Good to Very Good but borders have been trimmed away to 2 ¼-by-3-inch dimensions – includes Klein, Manush, Berger, Bridges and Cramer; 1948 Bowman (6) – Good to Very Good, including Feller (Fair), Slaughter (Good), Blackwell, Cooper, Henrich and Elliott; 1949 Bowman (44) – near-complete run from Nos. 1-39, missing only Nos. 8, 24 and 37 – mostly Good to Very Good with a couple Fair and featuring eight Rookies and nine Hall of Famers – No. 1 Bickford, Sauer, Cavaretta, Fain, Boudreau – Very Good, Simmons Rookie – Good, Garver Rookie, Brown Rookie, Doerr Rookie – Fair, Kell Rookie – VG-Ex, Feller – VG, Kiner – VG, Spahn – VG-Plus, Raschi Rookie, Reese – VG-Ex, Slaughter – VG and Mize – VG-Ex, plus Bearden, Cox, Gordon, Marion, Seminick, Thomson and Yost; 1951 Topps Red Backs near set (49/62) – missing Nos. 12, 13 and 17 – overall 16 percent Ex-Mt, 30 percent Excellent, 34 percent Very Good, 11 percent Good and eight percent Fair – No. 1 Berra – Very Good, 5 Rizzuto – VG, 8 Wynn – VG-Plus, 15 Kiner – Fair, 20 DiMaggio – Fair, 22 Feller – VG, 30 Spahn – Excellent, 31 Hodges – VG, 38 Snider – VG-Ex and 59 Irvin – Good.
