Offered is a nice example of the important 1954 Topps Baseball issue, the iconic set that featured a large player portrait and a smaller action image, a design element that would be utilized in various permutations for decades to come. The card design that was the favorite Topps effort of legendary pioneer Sy Berger is presented here in a near set that is missing only three cards: Aaron Rookie, Larry Doby and Bill Renna. The set features two of the most coveted Rookie cards of the era from Ernie Banks and Al Kaline, along with a remarkable pair of cards of Ted Williams, that last a rare tribute from Topps for having obtained the rights to include Teddy Ballgame in a mainstream issue after a two-year absence. Overall, the offered near set comes out to 14 percent Excellent, 44 percent Very Good, 32 percent Good and 9 percent Fair.
