Here’s a simply stunning example of the Canadian version of Topps Baseball, the quaint O-Pee-Chee Baseball set that typically was a somewhat truncated version of their Lower-48 counterpart Topps, often with an expanded representation from the Expos and Blue Jays. Such is the case here in 1978, with the 242-card complete set found here in exceptional basically as-issued Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint condition, with a with a very pronounced emphasis to the upper end of the spectrum and no discernible difference between the Tier One Hall of Famers and the lowliest of commons. The cards boast – along with the charming bilingual flair of the card backs – simply sensational color and gloss, all with the distinctive rough cut on some of the cards that is part-and-parcel of the fabled O-Pee-Chee issues over the years. With the vending effect comes some of the anticipated centering issues that can be part of the genre, including a handful of “diamond cut” cards.
