Offered is an attractive example of an important mid-1960s football card issue, the 1965 Philadelphia Gum set that depicted players from the National Football League at a time when Topps had stepped back from the veteran circuit to focus for several years on the fledgling American Football League. The offered near set presents in a uniform and consistent fashion, essentially Very Good to Excellent, with some above and below the range; many of the key Hall of Famers and Rookies are among the missing, though the array does feature 18 Hall of Famers as indicated below. Here’s the breakdown of keys: No. 1 Colts Team – Fair, 2 Berry – Good, 10 Parker – VG, 17 Atkins – Excellent, 47 Lilly – Very Good, 50 Meredith – VG, 63 Lary – VG-Ex, 75 Gregg – VG, 76 Hornung – Poor, 81 Starr – Good, 89 Jones – VG-Ex, 105 Eller Rookie – VG, 107 Marshall – VG, 138 Ringo – Ex, 173 – Fair, 179 – Good, 187 Huff – VG, 188 Jurgensen – Ex, 189 Krause Rookie – VG, 191 Mitchell – VG-Ex, 195 Taylor – VG, 197 Checklist – Ex and 198 Checklist – Good (mk).
