This is an absolutely stunning array of pristine cards from 1979-89 Topps Hockey, an assortment as notable for its massive proportions as it is for the Hall of Fame roster that numbers into the many hundreds and includes many of the legendary figures from the era. Obviously, the hoard features enormous duplication, even of the Hall of Famers and Specials; as noted, the condition of the regular-issue pile is essentially Near-Mint to Mint, with a few below, and a pronounced vending bend that bespeaks of uncirculated cardboard. In addition to the many thousands of regular-issue Topps cards, there are also hundreds of pieces from a host of Topps peripheral issues like Stamps, Glossies, Booklets, Team Logo and All-Star Stickers and NHLPA cards, It’s easily one of the largest lots we’ve ever put together, so it’s going to challenge/infuriate the postman. Here’s the breakdown: 1) 1970 Topps Stamps (20) – Ex-Mt or better, with Beliveau, Mikita and Sanderson; 2) 1971-72 Booklets (70) – 2 ½-by-3 ½ inches, 8 pages, including Orr (3), Howe (3), Hull (2), Dryden (2), Esposito (3) and Plante (2); 3) 1976 Topps (1,800) – many Hall of Famers, including Dionne (6), Sittler (9) and Salming (18), plus 95 Teams; 4) 1976 Topps Glossies (80) – Near-Mint or better, including Orr (3); 5) 1977 Topps (1,800) – many Hall of Famers; 6) 1977 Topps Glossies (200); 7) 1978 Topps (5,600) – hundreds of Hall of Famers; 8) 1979 (4,000) – Howe, Dryden (12), Dionne (12), Perreault (18), Park (16), Trottier (10), Sittler (16), Clarke (5), Schultz (21), LaPointe (25), Barber (22), Savard (23), Salming (15), Macleish (21), Smith (18), Robinson (19), Marcotte (18), Plus Record Breakers (49, with Bossy (14), Trottier (9), Lafleur (16) and Esposito (5) – also 77 Team cards, 123 Leaders (including three No. 1’s) and nine Checklists; 8) 1980 Topps (1,000) – many Hall of Famers; 9) 1981 Topps (3,600) – with Bourque (3), Bossy (6), Sittler (13), Trottier (15), plus 300 Team cards; 10) 1984 Topps (2,100) – with 14 Gretzky, 15 Bossy, eight Gretzky All-Stars, and a dozen or more each of Coffey, Kurri and other Hall of Famers; 11) 1985 Topps (75) – with Gretzky, Trottier (2) and Kurri (2); 12) 1987-88 Team Logo Stickers (90); 13) 1987 Topps (150); (14) 1987-88 Team Logo Stickers (90); 14) 1988 Topps (500); and 15) 1988 NHLPA Mini Hockey Cards (1 ¼-by-1 ¾ inches) in original cellophane packages (30), with Messier and Trottier; and 1989 (900). Whew, that’s a boatload.
