June 15, 2023: Tobacco Cards Only Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2023
Presented is an attractive Miller Huggins card from one of the difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes Type 2 offering that mimics the images of T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. The Hall of Fame manager is featured on a pair of cards in the issue, with the Portrait variation here a particularly striking image that is found in a PSA 1.5 holder. The card centering is roughly 65/35 right to left and outstanding top to bottom; the vivid orange background color is notable and nicely showcases the image of Huggins, and the “Huggins, St. Louis Nat.” typeface in blue is particularly sharp and one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts. The Coupon Cigarettes back is crisp and clean, with the black ink extremely sharp.
