Presented is a complete set of the important 1953 Topps Baseball issue, found here in a condition range fairly typical of how this issue is encountered in mature collections, primarily Fair to Very Good, with some above to Ex-Mt and Excellent and a handful below deemed Altered or Authentic. The Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays keys are in PSA 1 holders; Mantle (Minimum Size) and Paige (Altered) were not slabbed by PSA. The iconic Topps issue depicting players in attractive paintings rather than the colorized black-and-white photography of the previous year is easily one of the most recognizable and important issues of the Golden Era of the 1950s. This set boasts a consistent presentation that comes out to 3 percent Ex-Mt or Excellent, 19 percent Very Good, 56 percent Good and 21 percent Fair. Breakdown of keys and condition anomalies: No. 1 Robinson – PSA 1, 27 Campanella – Good, 37 Mathews – Good, 41 Slaughter – Very Good, 43 McDougald – Fair, 54 Feller – VG-Ex, 61 Wynn – Excellent, 62 Irvin – Good, 66 Minoso – Good, 76 Reese – Fair, 77 Mize – Good, 78 Schoendienst – Good, 82 Mantle – (Minimum Size), 86 Martin – Good m/c, 92 – (Altered), 104 Berra – (Trimmed), 114 Rizzuto – Good, 138 Kell – Good, 142 Wertz – Ex-Mt-Plus, 147 Spahn – Ex-Mt-Plus, 149 DiMaggio – Fair, 151 Wilhelm – Ex-Mt-Plus, 191 Kiner – Good, 207 Ford – (Altered), 220 Paige – (Altered), 228 Newhouser – Good, 244 Mays – PSA 1, 258 Gilliam Rookie – Good, 260 – (Altered), 263 Podres Rookie – Fair and 280 Bolling – Good.
