This is a nice example of the most difficult, condition-sensitive baseball card issue that Topps ever produced, the black-bordered 1971 Topps set that remains one of the true classics for serious collectors. This set in nine-pocket sheets in a binder is in essentially Very Good to Ex-Mt condition, with some above and a few below the range, with the emphasis probably to Excellent. The offering is fairly typical in terms of condition of how this particular set is found in older collections, including some of the expected off-center cards. The breakdown of keys and condition anomalies: No. 1 Orioles Team – Very Good-Plus, 5 Munson – VG, 20 Jackson – VG-Ex, 26 Blyleven Rookie – Ex-Mt, 50 McCovey – Ex-Mt, 100 Rose – Good-Plus, 160 Seaver – VG-Plus, 117 Simmons Rookie – Excellent-Plus, 150 Kaline – VG, 183 Hodges – Ex-Mt, 210 Carew – VG, 230 Stargell – Ex, 290 Oliva – VG-Ex, 300 Brooks Robinson – VG-Ex, 325 Marichal – VG-Ex, 341 Garvey Rookie – VG, 350 Williams – Ex-Mt, 370 Torre – Ex-Plus, 400 Aaron – Ex, 450 Gibson – Near-Mint, 513 Ryan – VG, 530 Yastrzemski – VG-Ex, 550 Killebrew – VG-Ex, 600 Mays – VG-Ex o/c, 625 Brock – VG-Plus, 640 Frank Robinson – VG and 709 Baker/Baylor Rookie – Ex-Mt-Plus.
