This is a simply extraordinary piece that seemingly traces its roots to the initial years of the fabled tenure of the Athletics in the Midwest, a 58-inch-high stadium advertising tripod made of a remarkably heavy metal. Perched on three metal legs, the striking 30-inch-square “sign” is apparently without any condition issues, picturing a baseball diamond with a batter and a pitcher depicted in cartoon fashion at home plate and first base. The famed Athletics mascot elephant and baseball also adorns the piece, along with two sections designed to hold changeable information about “Your Athletics At Home.” Manufactured by ABC Sign & Neon Co. of Kansas City, Mo., the piece is nothing short of sensational, whether an actual stadium-used artifact (as suggested by the extraordinarily heavy metal construction) or something conceived by an ardent fan, the sign would make an incredible addition to any man cave on Planet Earth.
