Offered here is a solid example of an important Topps issue from the 1970’s, the 660-card 1973 set, found here in a condition range a bit broader than might typically be found in mature collections, essentially Good to Ex-Mint, with some below and the emphasis to Ex-Mt (with perhaps four dozen-plus cards reaching Near-Mint status). Overall, it comes out to eight percent Near-Mint, 36 percent Ex-Mt, 12 percent Excellent, 24 percent Very Good, 17 percent Good and only a couple of dozen cards below, mostly to Fair. The key Mike Schmidt Rookie is in an SGC Authentic holder (Altered); about 25 percent of the cards in the set have the kind of centering that might typically prompt thoughts of an upgrade, though not all of those would be severe enough to dictate a formal off-center designation. This was the final time that Topps printed and distributed the cards in series throughout the spring and summer, a format that ruled for almost two decades. The higher numbers are symbolically important because they are the last of the breed, with sets going forward printed all at the same time rather than staggered through the spring and summer.
