This lot is extraordinary in that it could provide the winning bidder with a library-quality archive of the iconic Sporting News Baseball Registers, the annual publication that was highly anticipated by generations of baseball fans each year. The 6-by-9-inch Registers found here in an uninterrupted run from 1940 to 1986 ran to hundreds of pages even in the 1940s and by the 1950s could be 350 or so. The issues from the first dozen years or so had spot red and blue color added to the covers, which often employed the legendary pen-and-ink artwork of the battalion of great artists who decorated the pages of the weekly Sporting News. In this incredible archive, some of the earliest pieces are in Good to Very Good condition, with some below, and as is customary with significant runs of publications the condition improved over the years. By the 1960s or so the range was closer to Excellent to Ex-Mt, and by the late 1960s certainly Ex-Mt or better.
