This is a unique lot from one of the most unique football sets that Topps undertook in the 1960s, a group of six dozen cards from the oversized 1965 Topps issue that is confined to only four different players. It’s an uncommonly pristine assortment, with roughly ½ of the group in Near-Mint condition, with a few of those jostled only by off center or miscut status. Virtually all of the 4 11/16-by-22 ½-inch cards boast wonderful, vivid colors and exceptional gloss, along with uncommonly pristine white backs and crisp orange spot color. The group is headlined by legendary linebacker E.J. Holub who played 10 seasons for the Dallas Texans/Kansas City Chiefs and was a five-time All-Star and won three AFL Championships and a Super Bowl. He is joined by American Football League wide receiver Art Powell, who was a standout in the NFL, AFL and CFL over his career. Here’s the breakdown: 1) No. 103 E.J. Holub Shortprint (6) – two are VG-Ex, four are Very Good (two off centers); 2) No. 106 Jerry Mays (10) – three are Near-Mint (one miscut and one off center), six are VG with some curling and one is Fair; 3) No. 123 Dainard Paulson (20) – A total of 15 are Nr-Mt with four off centers, three Ex-Mts with two off centers and one Very Good and one Good; and 4) No. 146 Art Powell (36) – includes 17 Nr-Mt with a dozen off centers, and 19 Ex-Mts with 10 off centers.
