Presented is a highly attractive partial set of what is easily the most coveted baseball issue of the Depression Era, the colorful Goudey set, found here in a unique condition range by virtue of a “Trimmed” determination from PSA. The cards measure deliciously close to the set’s official 2 3/8-by-2 7/8-inch requirements; clearly the trimming was done with considerable skill and care, providing a partial set that presents in an outstanding fashion, notwithstanding its bona fides having been thusly qualified. The offering is headlined by more than two dozen Hall of Famers, including some of the biggest names of the period, like Al Simmons, Carl Hubbell (2), Jim Bottomley, Hack Wilson, Joe Cronin (2), Charlie Gehringer and Mel Ott, to name a few. The group represents roughly 55 percent of a complete set, with the majority presenting in Excellent to Near-Mint condition, with blazing colors and uncommonly clean, white card backs. The listing that follows obviously refers to presentation rather than a technical grade because of the “Trimmed” qualifier; a handful have been deemed “Altered.” With that noted, the array comes out to 15 percent Near-Mint, 15 percent Ex-Mt, 9 percent Excellent, 11 percent VG-Ex, 21 percent Very Good, 22 percent Good and 7 percent Fair.
