Hard to picture a more compelling football card artifact than an uncut sheet from the very first Topps football card set picturing NFL players, a colorful 60-card classic showcasing many of the legendary figures from the rough-and-tumble decade of the 1950s and nine of the difficult short prints. The massive 23-by-26 ½-inch sheet features more than a dozen Hall of Famers and a host of the great stars of the era on the 2 5/8-by-3 ¾-inch cards that marked the final year of Topps producing in the larger format. With vivid color backgrounds and a lineup that includes the likes of Y.A. Tittle, Frank Gifford, Norm Van Brocklin, Chuck Bednarik, Tom Fears and Elroy Hirsch, to name a few, the sheet is a stunner, providing a marvelous presentation even with a technical grade of Fair stemming from notable corner wear, some small tears, adhesive residue or paper loss at some of the edges. In addition to the Hall of Famers headlining and mentioned above, the roster includes the likes of Hugh McElhenny, Leo Nomellini, Joe Perry, Ernie Stautner, Roosevelt Brown, Rosey Grier, Emlen Tunnell, Kyle Rote, Paul Younger and Bill Forester, plus Team cards of the Packers, Rams, Giants, Eagles, Steelers and 49ers.
