This is a nice group of 1955 Topps, with good color and decent gloss in an issue that can often present in a nice fashion. The range of the set is essentially Good to Ex-Mt, with about 20 percent of the issue falling below the range. The HOFers and stars generally fall within the broader range; in an oddity, some of the keys present better than their technical grade, most notably a No. 194 Willie Mays that is Near-Mint but miscut, or Hank Aaron (Excellent) and the Sandy Koufax rookie card No. 123 (Very Good), both of which seem to have been laminated in some fashion.
The breakdown: Nr-Mt (1) – 194 Mays; Ex-Mt (21) – 18, 38, 107, 111, 119, 126, 128 o/c, 129, 133 o/c, 142 o/c, 143 o/c, 144, 148, 160, 173, 174, 178 m/c, 179, 183, 184 o/c, and 197; Excellent (32) – 5, 6, 21, 29, 47 Aaron, 63 o/c, 66, 69, 70, 78, 92, 95, 97, 98, 101, 103, 112, 120, 127, 136, 147, 151, 153, 154, 156, 163 o/c, 169, 180, 185, 188, 190 and 200; Very Good (42) – 1 Rhodes, 4 Kaline, 7, 10, 12, 15, 20, 24 Newhouser, 40, 45, 54, 55, 58, 60, 62, 73, 79, 84, 90, 91, 104, 114, 116, 117,121, 123 Koufax, 141, 149, 155 Mathews, 158, 159, 167, 170, 171, 176, 177, 193, 198 Berra, 201, 202, 208 and 210 Snider PSA 3 m/c; Good (66) – 2 Ted Williams, 3, 6, 11, 14, 19 Herman, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28 Banks, 32, 37, 39, 41, 42, 43, 44, 46, 50 Robinson, 52, 56, 59, 61, 64, 65, 68, 72, 76, 80, 81, 86, 87, 93, 94, 99, 105, 106, 108, 109, 110, 115, 122, 125 Boyer, 130, 131, 132, 137, 139, 140, 145, 150, 161, 164 Clemente, 166, 168, 182, 187, 189 Rizzuto, 191, 192, 196, 199, 205 and 207; Fair (34) – 8, 9, 13, 17, 23, 33, 34, 35, 36, 49, 53, 57, 67, 71, 77, 82, 85, 88, 89, 96, 100 Irvin, 113, 118, 124 Killebrew, 138, 146, 157, 162, 165, 172, 181, 195, 204 and 206; Poor (10) – 30, 31 Spahn, 48, 51, 75, 83, 102, 134, 135 and 152.
