This is a wonderful grouping of one of the most difficult 1960’s Topps issues to find in better grades, a condition-sensitive oversized poster – 9 ¾-by-18 1/8 inches – that challenges collectors to accumulate examples in top condition. Unlike the typical inserts included with mainstream Topps regular-issue cards, these huge color posters were sold in individual packs with gum, with 24 players – mostly Hall of Famers and great stars – comprising a full set. Offered here is a near-set, with four players missing and duplicates included for eight others. Some of the duplicates clearly were efforts by the original owner to update because of condition concerns; overall the grouping presents essentially Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt, with a significant number – including many Hall of Famers – reaching to the upper end of the scale. The missing Nos. are 8, 10, 12 and 15.
The breakdown: No. 1 presents Nr-Mt but has small tear; No. 2 (2) Ex-Mt and presents Nr-Mt but several tiny tears; No. 3 (2) Ex-Mt and Fair; No. 4 Ex-Mt; No. 5 Ex-Mt; No. 6 Clemente – presents Ex-Mt but small tear; No. 7 Drysdale – Ex-Mt; No. 9 Kaline Nr-Mt, No. 11 (2) Nr-Mt and presents Ex-Mt with small tear; No. 13 (2) Nr-Mt; No. 14 Aaron Nr-Mt; No. 16 Yastrzemski (2) Nr-Mt and Poor; No. 17 (2) Nr-Mt and presents Ex-Mt with small tear; No. 18 Mantle Ex-Mt; No. 19 (2) both present Ex-Mt but with small tears; No. 20 Mays Very Good; No. 21 presents Ex-Mt with small tear; No. 22 presents Ex-Mt but with small tear; No. 23 Rose Nr-Mt; and No. 24 Frank Robinson presents Ex-Mt but with small tear.
