Talk about your Cooperstown-worthy attire: here’s a blazing Red Sox road jersey worn by Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez in 1999 in what was certainly his finest season and maybe the finest season by a hurler in many a year. The 1999 jersey shows good game use from a season when the flame thrower did too; he was a career-best 23-4, with a 2.07 ERA and 313 strikeouts in only 213 innings. That adds up to the pitcher’s Triple Crown, which of course also added up to a Cy Young Award, Pedro’s second of three. The jersey in question boasts the fabled “Boston” in Olde English in red and blue tackle twill on the front, with the Russell Athletic embroidered logo on the rights sleeve and a magnificent embroidered 1999 All-Star Game patch on the left. Pedro’s famed No. 45 appears on the back in red and blue tackle twill, with very light fraying of the stitching; his name appears in the same fashion on a grey nameplate on back. Russell Athletic tagging is affixed to the front left with Size 44 and “1999” adjacent flag tag. Start the bidding on an unmatched piece of history from one of the true giants of the modern era.
