Here is a striking game-worn jersey from star outfielder Tommy Harper, who parlayed his blazing speed and good power into a solid 15-year career that yielded 408 career stolen bases and two titles for thievery, including in 1973 for the Sox. The all-original and as-issued flannel jersey (Boston switched over to knit jerseys after the All-Star break)has the appropriate McAuliffe tagging at the front, with adjacent flap tags “1972” in red above and “42” below in blue. There is some slight staining and discoloration on an outstanding shirt and some more prominent staining on the back tail. Harper’s No. 4 is on the back in black and red felt and “Red Sox” appears across the front in the same format.
