Of the 73 examples of this card graded to date by PSA, a total of only 11 cards have been graded higher and only 16 have been graded PSA 4. This is a very attractive example of one of Ruth’s truly great early 1920’s cards. The 1921 season saw the New York Yankees win the first of their seven World Series appearances during Ruth’s tenure. It was also the very first year the legendary Exhibit Supply Company of Chicago issued cards, proceeding to issue sets for the next several decades. These cards were sold by Exhibit card machines at amusement parks and penny arcades, one penny per card, with the Ruth card the key card from the set. The card has three EX/MT corners, but the lower right corner has a light fold, knocking this crystal clear image and brilliant surface down to VG/EX. An outstanding and very nice example of what is universally recognized by collectors as one of Ruth’s classic cards, and one which appears much better than its assigned grade.
