Presented is a remarkable boxing artifact from one of the legendary figures from the sport, the legendary Black Heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson, who held the crown at a time when the Klan was on the rise and Jim Crow discrimination was widespread and particularly virulent. The Johnson card is one of his most important and coveted in the genre, found here in a rare uncut strip with nine of his contemporaries alongside on a strip that is in Very Good condition. The strip is 13 ½-by-2 ½ inches; the subjects, from left to right: Wolgast, Johnson, Griffo, O’Dowd, Genard, Buff, Moran, Bernstein, Williams and Young Corbett.
