Presented is an imposing grouping of the popular 1948 Baseball’s Great Hall of Fame Exhibit Cards depicting – you guessed it – all Hall of Famers in a unique complementary issue to the famed Exhibit Card Series that ran from 1947-66. With nearly two dozen different players featured in a set of only 32, the lot includes a good deal of duplication, often involving some of the greatest names of prewar baseball, including Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson and Eddie Plank. The array is broadly Excellent to Ex-Mt, with some below and most of the key outliers noted below. A handful of cards have a tiny pencil notation on the back. Like their more famous counterparts, the 3 3/8-by-5 3/8-inch Baseball’s Great Hall of fame Exhibits feature an ornate pillar graphic device on the front and are black-and-white with blank backs printed on a heavy cardboard stock. The Breakdown: Alexander – Good;, Bresnahan (5) – two Ex-Mt, Excellent, Very Good and Good; Chance (3); Chesbro (2); Clarke, Cobb (2) – Very Good and Good (mk); Collins (4) – Ex-Mt, two VG and Good; Evers (2) – Ex-Mt and VG; Gehrig – VG-Ex; Griffith (2), Hornsby – Fair; Hubbell – Ex; Jennings (2); Johnson (4) – two Ex, Very Good and Good; Keeler – VG; Mathewson (2) – VG-Ex and Good; McGraw; Plank (3) – one is Good; Tinker – Fair; Waddell (2) – one is VG; and Wagner – VG.
