This is a nice example of an important vintage Topps baseball issue from the Golden Age of Baseball Cards in the 1950’s, the classic 1956 Topps set that was the final entry in the larger 2 5/8-by-3 ¾-inch format. Slabbed specimens of the Tier One Hall of Famers headline this complete set, including No. 5 Ted Williams – SGC 4, No. 30 Jackie Robinson – SGC Authentic, No. 79 Sandy Koufax – SGC 4.5, No. 110 Yogi Berra – SGC 2, No. 130 Willie Mays – SGC 2.5 and No. 135 Mickey Mantle- SGC 1. This is a solid collector-grade example of the popular vintage offering, fairly evenly divided between Ex-Mt, Excellent, VG-Ex, Very Good and Good condition, with barely more than a dozen cards falling below the range and a half dozen above to Near-Mint. The two unnumbered checklists, very rare and not technically considered part of the complete set, are found here in PSA 4 slabs, neatly mirroring the rest of the array; the offered lot also includes the 12 Team Card Variations from Series One. There are seven cards that have been slabbed and graded by SGC that offer a nice glimpse into the broader condition range. In the case of perhaps more than 20 percent of the total, the centering may prompt thoughts of an upgrade, though not all of those would be severe enough to dictate a formal off-center qualification. The set comes out to 19 percent Ex-Mt, 25 percent Excellent, 19 percent VG-Ex, 19 percent Very Good and 12 percent Good.
